Job Description: INTERIM /TRANSITIONAL PASTOR Position: Full Time Transitional pastor to serve a congregation of 84 members. The church located in Augusta, GA is a member of the Northeast Georgia Presbytery and the Atlantic Synod and is responsible to its policies. Desired characteristics: Will be faithful to his/her commitment to the service of Jesus Christ. Will model the teachings of the Word of God. Can provide Christian-based leadership to a diverse congregation. Encourages the development of a youth ministry. Capable of preparing and delivering nurturing, compassionate, spirit-filled sermons to the congregation. Shows sensitivity to the role of this church in the community. Responsibilities: The Transitional/Interim Pastor: 1. Will be a member of Northeast Georgia Presbytery unless otherwise authorized by the Committee on Ministry. 2. Will be designated by Northeast Georgia Presbytery as Transitional/Interim Pastor and Moderator of the church's Session (non-voting) and congregation (non-voting). 3. Will assist the Church in interpreting and understanding the specialized nature of Interim/Transitional Ministry. 4. Will serve as Head of Staff of the Church with all the authority implied, including the authority to supervise all members of the staff, in consultation with the Session or its appropriate committee(s). 5. Shall assist, as needed, in the conduct of any mission study and the preparation of documents needed by the presbytery or denomination, if and when requested and approved by the governing bodies of jurisdiction. 6. Shall not be involved in the work of the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC), except to provide general information on the call process for Presbyterian churches and pastors, and to see that the PNC makes adequate and appropriate reports to the congregation. 7. The Interim Pastor may serve on a limited basis and only upon the concurrence of the COM, as a resource to the work of the PNC. The Interim Pastor may respond to inquiries from prospective pastors, if the interaction is initiated by the prospective pastor. TASKS: •As Head of Staff, directing and supervising the work of the congregation and the entire staff, and assuming primary responsibility for the administration of the Church. •Representing the congregation in its relationships with organizations outside the congregation. •Modeling appropriate pastoral leadership and boundaries, including maintaining personal spiritual disciplines (meditation, prayer, study, and the regular observance of Sabbath time). Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent and meets the requirements for admission to an accredited Masters level theological seminary . Experience: Some experience as Associate or Lead Pastor, but not required. Salary range: At a minimum, a salary commensurate with the Northeast Presbytery Standards.
